Our organization, the “SEE ME Foundation,” also known as “See Me Through The Eyes Of Harley,” is devoted to enhancing Black men’s mental health awareness.

“See Me Through The Eyes Of Harley” supports organizations that are in line with our vision and are taking the same initiative toward young African/American men. Harley was a Big Brother; he loved his younger brother Andrew, the Founder of Alexen Trucking. Our foundation is in line with Alexen Trucking vision which is “People First.” The “See Me Through The Eyes Of Harley” organization will also be a Big Brother to young black men.

Community Support Through Our SEE ME Foundation

Harley always seemed fine – yet he had been battling depression, gender identity, and schizophrenia in silence. He eventually started withdrawing himself from society, his family. He isolated himself. In 2007, Harley left his home in Brooklyn, New York where he was living with his father and disappeared. To this day, neither the police nor his family have been able to find his whereabouts.

This disease is no longer regional. It is spreading worldwide. Like Harley, it never appeared that internally he was suffering from this disease, which means that its awareness is critical for its prevention.

That is why the organization “See Me Through The Eyes of Harley” was founded.

Our foundation supports organizations that bring to light the hidden sickness in black men, especially those battling with depression, schizophrenia, and gender identity. According to a recent study, the frequency of anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems among young black people has more than quadrupled over the past decades. Harley also fell prey to this devastating Illness.

Mental health is an important component of total physical health and happiness. The black population has a higher prevalence of mental health issues, such as anxiety and sadness. Because of more frequent and severe psychosocial stressors, young black men have disproportionately higher levels of mental health difficulties than other races of men. They are more prone to endure unpleasant experiences that have an impact on their mental health. Racism, discrimination, and injustice have a negative impact on one’s psychological well-being. Some encounters may even be traumatic. This stress can increase one’s chance of developing a mental disease.

Unfortunately, there is still some stigma around mental health. For example, psychiatric illnesses are viewed less favorably compared to physical conditions. Furthermore, the black community sits at the nexus of racism, classism, and health injustice; their mental health needs are frequently aggravated and largely unmet. Economic instability and the attendant experiences, such as violence and criminal injustice, exacerbate the mental health inequalities in the black community.

In recent years, however, there has been an increase in mental health awareness. The importance of mental health is spoken about more openly. Coping methods may be readily

available. Religious coping and approaches such as pastoral assistance and prayer are frequently the preferred coping mechanisms in the black community. Destigmatizing mental health may be accomplished by assisting individuals, particularly those in the Black community, in understanding that mental health, like a balanced diet, sleep, and exercise, is a crucial component of well-being.
